The aim of this blog is simply to record some of the walks that we take in and around Gaucin, Andalucia. The nearby Serrania de Ronda and Parque Natural de los Alcornocales offer wonderfully varied walking terrain from gently rolling hills to rugged mountains and there is a wealth of arquitectural, geological and natural history to discover.

Walks around Castellar de la Frontera and San Martin de Tesorillo
Last week a group of us did three half-day walks; Cerro del Galgo and Cerro Gordo near San Martin and a walk from the Rio Hozgarganta up to the castle at Castellar de la Frontera.

Algatocin to Benalauria
This morning we walked from Algatocin to Benalauria and back. It was a superb sunny and warm winter's day, reaching 20C by midday. Mostly on ancient footpaths the route starts just outside Algatocin village, passes down through steep mixed woodland, crosses a dry stream before heading up through cork oaks woods to Benalauria.
